'Colour!' is my self-written and directed short film which wrapped up production back in 2021 while I was working with Italic Pig in Belfast. I pitched my 7 minute film idea to NI Screen's Creative Call to Animation Scheme in 2020 and was lucky enough to be one of the two projects selected in the entirety of Northern Ireland.
'Colour!' tells the story of Coral, a vibrant little girl struggling to find common ground with her classmates on her first week at a new school. When constantly confronted with standing out, she wants nothing more than to blend in with the crowd, and doing so, risks fading away entirely.
I'm very grateful to NI Screen and the BFI Institute as well as the team at Italic Pig that helped me bring this story to the screen. It's something close to my heart and I'm very excited to showcase the film in Ireland and worldwide.
'Colour!' is still doing the festival circuit - so keep an eye out!
In March we had the pleasure of being awarded Best Irish Professional Film at Animation Dingle Festival!
The judges had these kind words to say:
“The concept of the film may seem simple, but it is so relevant and actual. The sharpness of the treatment highlights situations and emotions lived and experienced by the minorities. As part of a minority people in a western country, I can only be highly concerned by the topic and deeply touched by the message. The graphism is sober but leaves room for poetry and emotions.
Messages are true and sincere. One of them resonates deeply inside me: Never reject what we are and where we are from.”
