'Paleo Pines' is an adorable dinosaur themed ranching simulator currently in production at indie game studio Italic Pig in Belfast.
As a 3D generalist on a small art team I was involved in several areas of the project both in and outside of the Unity Engine. My role spanned from modelling and texturing a wide range of dinosaurs, props and Foliage assets for the game to VFX creation and 2D concept.
MODELLING
Creatures
Just a handful of examples of the multiple dino companions I modelled and textured for the game.
FARMING
I was the art lead on farming during the game's development which meant that I designed, prototyped and created all the initial models and VFX under this bracket. I was also responsible for creating tileable ground textures for the ranch (and later for other areas).
As a lead with such a wide reaching role I had to work closely with the programming team throughout to ensure assets were executed correctly in the game and I spent a lot of time in the unity engine as a result. I was also responsible for training future artists who joined the farming team after the prototype stage.
Some of the many crop models I created for the game:
VFx
Using unity's particle system I created the first farming VFX for the game from scratch. I utilised both 2D and 3D art skills to achieve the cartoony style we were aiming for.
Other Models
I was also tasked with creating a variety of other models for the game - including a selection of rocks we could use across multiple levels which could be rotated and combined in different ways to create diverse results.
